ABB Acquires JOKAB SAFETY / NCC ElectronicsMonday, February 15, 2010 Leader in machine safety makes key addition to control products offeringABB announced today the acquisition of Jokab Safety / NCC Electronics, a leading supplier of machine safety solutions that will now become part of BU Control Products within the Low Voltage Products division. The deal is scheduled to be concluded in March subject to customary regulatory approvals. Jokab Safety is a well known brand in the industry, and has focused exclusively on the machine safety segment. As a result, their product portfolio is highly complementary to ABB's existing lineup, and both organizations stand to benefit from the combination. Machine safety is a growing market, and has already begun to merge with standard control products and solutions. Increasingly, original equipment manufacturers prefer a single vendor with the capability to supply both safety and control products, so the combination of ABB and Jokab addresses a key market need. Jokab Safety has proven competence in development, standards and sales in the machine safety arena, and the company's solutions are already being used as a complement to ABB's low voltage products. This acquisition closes a gap in ABB's offering and opens new growth opportunities for the entire range of control products. Jokab Safety's / NCC Electronics’ presence in North America is centered on two facilities located in Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. Jokab Safety's / NCC Electronics’ senior management will stay on to continue running the business once the acquisition is complete. |
